The federal-style gain is not a state return. BasisFix stops there on purpose.

State bitcoin taxes, in brief

Notice 2014-21 treats bitcoin as property for federal income tax. A state return is a separate form, often starting from federal income and then applying its own additions and subtractions. BasisFix does not know those adjustments. It does not list states, it does not quote a state rate, and it does not claim that every state follows the federal holding period. The output is a review with a tax pro.

What you can hand a preparer

There is no residency test here, no part-year allocation, and no city tax. If you moved, or if the exchange account and the wallet disagree about where you lived, that is outside the CSV. The calculator is the same engine with no state column at all.

Questions

Does this worksheet include a state return?

No. It has no state schedules, no state rates, and no list of which states conform to a federal rule. The federal gain on the worksheet is an input a preparer may map. It is not a state form.

Is the federal property treatment the state answer?

No. Notice 2014-21 is a federal notice. States differ, and BasisFix does not survey them. Do not treat the Form 8949 boxes on the worksheet as a state code.

Should the same lots be matched again for the state?

Ask the preparer. BasisFix matches lots once, under the method you pick, for the federal-style worksheet. It does not run a second method for a state and it does not adjust for a state addition or subtraction.
